Ottawa Mayoral Candidates Debate
October 2, 2018 7PM – 9PM
Carleton University,
Minto Theatre (Library Road), Ottawa

Join Now What?! & Ottawa Council of Women as we listen to Ottawa mayoral candidates discuss their perspectives on gender-based issues relevant to the municipality.
Topics include housing, taxation, transit, policing, Indigenous relations, child care, Sanctuary Cities and the need for an Ottawa Women's Bureau. 9 out of 12 mayoral candidates have confirmed their participation - we are awaiting the confirmation of the remaining 3.

Now What?! held a similar debate for the recent provincial election. The sold out event demonstrated Ottawa citizens’ keen interest in what candidates had to say on issues of gender-based violence and poverty. We expect greater attendance at this debate given the importance of the topics, and the fact that women & people of diversity are traditionally a small minority of elected council members. Ensuring the (soon to be) elected Mayor of Ottawa is committed to a gender balanced lens on ALL decisions made by the city is crucial. It is the only way we will create a truly diverse, inclusive and equitable city for everyone.
